the vault stays local
jot is a local-first capture inbox for macos. notes, voice, drawings, and annotations are plain markdown files in ~/Documents/Jot. there is no account, no sync, and no analytics on your notes. jot does not upload the vault.
purchase and license
checkout is a one-time purchase through dodo payments, the merchant of record. the price is $29, or $9 for the first 50 buyers. nothing renews. dodo collects what the payment needs, including your email and payment details, and issues the license key. jot does not see your card number. the app stores the key on this mac so it can activate. that file stays local. dodo describes what they collect in their privacy policy.
update checks
the app may ask dl.sayjot.xyz whether a newer build exists. that request is a version check. it does not include your notes. downloads are files on cloudflare r2, served from that host.
speech, on this mac or in the cloud
the first dictation can download a speech model from hugging face. that transfer is the model file, not your notes. transcription can stay on this mac with parakeet. cleanup can stay on this mac with apple's on-device model.
if you pick a cloud model, jot sends the dictation or cleanup text for that request to vercel's ai gateway, and on to the model you chose. on-device choices stay on the machine. leave the cloud model off, and that text does not leave.
the site
sayjot.xyz is a static site hosted on cloudflare. it does not run analytics, and it does not set a tracking cookie. cloudflare sees ordinary request logs, the same way any host does. those logs are not your notes.
who else can see data
- dodo payments. merchant of record for the purchase, tax, and the license.
- cloudflare. hosts this site, and serves app downloads over the cdn from r2.
- hugging face. serves the speech model when you download it.
- vercel, and the cloud model you pick. only if you turn a cloud model on. they receive the dictation or cleanup text for that request. an on-device model does not send it.
